The Program
Learn pottery beginning to end.
Learn to create pottery from beginning to end in this six-week beginner wheel-throwing program. Designed for adults with little or no pottery experience, the camp teaches students how to prepare and center clay, form vessels on the pottery wheel, trim their work, and prepare finished pieces for glazing.
Weeks 1 and 2
Preparing and wedging clay, centering on the wheel, and pulling your first walls.
Weeks 3 and 4
Forming vessels, cylinders, bowls, and cups, with control and consistency.
Week 5
Trimming leather-hard work, refining feet, handles, and finishing details.
Week 6
Glazing your finished pieces and preparing them for the final firing.
Schedule
Weekly Guided Class
The camp meets Friday nights from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, starting August 28, 2026 through October 2, 2026. Students receive hands-on, step-by-step instruction and guided practice at the wheel in a small, supportive class.
Independent Practice Time
Students may reserve up to two independent practice sessions each week, Tuesday through Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
These additional sessions give students time to repeat techniques, improve their wheel control, and build confidence between Friday classes. Extra practice sessions may become available when wheels are open.
Practice reservations are required and are subject to wheel availability. Independent practice time is not a separately instructed class, but limited assistance may be available when needed.
Finishing
